Aruna Hotels was incorporated as a public limited company on September.9, 1960. The company earlier known as Aruna Sugars & Enterprises Ltd and the later as Aruna Sunrise Hotels Ltd in the year 2000, it got its present name on February 6, 2007. This company was promoted by Dr P Maruthai Pillai. The registered office is located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Aruna Hotels is engaged in the hospitality business. The company`s hotel, Quality Inn Aruna, is a four-star business class hotel offering 94 rooms and six suites. It also owns and manages a discotheque at the Annex building in Chennai.
History of the company:
- The company was incorporated on September.9, 1960 under the name and style of Aruna Sugars Limited as a public limited company and obtained the Certificate of Commencement of Business on December 24, 1960. In 1986 the name of the company was changed as Aruna Sugars & Enterprises Limited to reflect the diversified nature of business.
- The company first set up a sugar plant with a crushing capacity of 1,250 tcd at Pennadam, South Arcot District, Tamil Nadu. Over the years, through a series of modernisation and expansion programmes, the capacity has been expanded to its present level of 5000 tcd.
- In 1986, the company diversified its activities by taking over through auction by TIIC Ltd, the assets, then owned by SAS Chemicals (Madras) Pvt Ltd, a sick unit at Ranipet, North Arcot District, Tamil Nadu, which has facilities for the manufacture of 30 tpd ferric alum. The alum plant has been revamped and is now working satisfactorily.
- In 1987 the company further diversified its activities by taking over the assets of Geetha Flour Mills Ltd at Tiruvalla, Kerala, with a milling capacity of 100 tpd of wheat. This is now a division of the company.
- During the same period, the company also entered the field of exports. At present, these activities comprise merchant exports of ready-made knitted and woven garments, silk and silk fabrics, shoe-uppers, etc.
- The company also had put up a business class hotel and a distillery project, to be commissioned by October 1993, as part of the further diversification plans.
- The sugar division would contribute about 75% of the company's sales and other divisions contribute about 25%.
- 2000 - Aruna Sugars & Enterprises Ltd changed its name to Aruna Sunrise Hotels Ltd.
- 2002 - Aruna Sunrise Hotels' board approved proposal to hive off the alum unit.
The company's scrip has been suspended from the BSE on account of non-compliance with listing agreement clauses.
