Ashapura Minechem (AML) is mine owner and exporter of bentonite.

The Ashapura Group also has business interests in iron ore, bleaching clay, kaolin and barites. The group has mining and mineral processing units located at Belgium, Nigeria, Oman and Malaysia. In India it operates from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.

AML is among the top six global producers of bentonite and owns 3500 acres of bentonite mines and 5500 acres of bauxite mines

The company’s mining and processing facilities are located at Kutch and Bhavnagar in Gujarat. AML has wholly-owned subsidiaries with offices located in UAE. The company has subsidiaries namely Bombay Minerals, Ashapura International, Ashapura Claytech, Ashapura Minechem (UAE) FZE

In 1998, the company diversified into bauxite and owns 100 million tones of reserves. The company commands 8% of share in global trading market.

In the year 1999 AMCOL International Corporation acquired 20 % of equity stake in AML. Due to this AML got access to AMCOL technology for various value added bentonite products. These products have applications in various industries such as oil and water well drilling, foundries, iron ore pelletization, civil engineering, etc.

Currently the company has interest in countries like Antwerp, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Nigeria, Malaysia.

In 2010 the company started new Initiatives in Indonesia to explore value added Minerals.
