Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) was incorporated under the Companies Act in March 1988 and started functioning in November 1989 by taking over the inland container depots (ICDs) of Indian Railways. From its humble beginnings, it is currently the undisputed market leader, boasting the largest network of terminals in India. In addition to providing inland transportation by rail for containers, it has expanded its business to include port management, air cargo complexes, and cold chain establishment.

With its state-of-the-art rail wagon fleet, customer-oriented commercial processes, and extensive use of information technology, the company has played and will continue to play a leading role in promoting containerization in India. The company has developed a multimodal logistics network to support India's international and domestic containerization and trade. While rail remains the mainstay of its transportation strategy, road services are also provided to meet door-to-door service, whether for international or domestic trade.

Currently, only CONCOR in India provides rail transportation for containerized cargo to maritime traders. Although rail is the primary route in its transportation plan, the company also offers road transportation to meet business demand and operational exigencies. CONCOR also operates container terminals spread across the country to meet all business needs, whether import-export or domestic.

Business area of the company

CONCOR's core business activities include serving as a carrier and terminal operator. As the leading provider of containerized rail transport in India, CONCOR enjoys a close working relationship with Indian Railways. The company's customs-bonded ICDs function as dry ports located in the hinterland, offering a full range of port-related services, including customs clearance, closer to customers' locations. These terminals are almost always connected to the Indian Railways network through rail infrastructure and, depending on their location and size, are also linked by road. Its extensive rail connectivity enables CONCOR to transport large volumes of cargo over long distances in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
