Telephone Cables Limited (TCL) was established in 1983 as a joint venture of the Brar Group and the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation. The company is into manufacturing jelly-filled telecom cables.
The company’s plant is located in Chandigarh, which was set up in technical collaboration with Essex of USA. The manufacturing facility, set up in 1989, has a production capacity that has been increased to 2.3 million conductor kilometres. The unit has state-of-the-art machines and test equipment.
The manufacturing unit has been accredited by the Dutch Council for Certification for ISO 9002 Quality Assurance Management Systems.
The company posted an estimated turnover of Rs 79.5 crore during 2000-01. TCL is now diversifying into the manufacturing of optical fibre and fibre optic cable.
It is aiming at developing a complete range of telecommunication cables, LAN (category 5) cables, UL wires, automotive/appliance harnesses, co-axial cables and magnet wires.
The company has formed a joint venture company with Hitachi Cable of Japan and has set up facilities at Mohali for manufacturing optical fibre and fibre optic cables. Hitachi-TCL Private Limited, the joint venture company, will provide a complete range of telecommunication cables and accessories, and turnkey solutions for the outside plant.
