United Breweries (Holdings) was incorporated in March 1915 at Chennai. UBL was formerly known as Kingfisher Properties & Holdings. UBL’s business activities include manufacturing, market and export of alcoholic beverages, leather footwear, pharmaceutical products, agrochemicals and processed food. It also operates air transportation and engineering colleges through its subsidiaries.
Its Indian subsidiaries are UB Electronic Instruments, UB Infrastructure Projects, UB International Trading, Kingfisher Airlines, Kingfisher Radio, City Properties Maintenance Company Bangalore and Kingfisher Training Academy.
Some of its foreign subsidiaries include Rigby International Corp, United Breweries of America Inc, Inversiones Mirabel, SA, Mendocino Brewing Co Inc and United Breweries International (UK).
Business areas
United Spirits- It is India’s largest and the world’s third largest distiller. Under this company UBL has created brands like Royal Challenge, McDowells, Bagpiper, etc.
United Breweries- This company is engaged in the beer business and has created brands like created brands like Kingfisher.
Kingfisher Airlines (KFA)- KFA is domestic airline. In the span of just two years it has become the most preferred airline. It owns 46% of stake in Deccan Airlines.
Mangalore Chemicals& Fertilisers (MCF)- MCF manufactures chemicals and fertilisers such as ammonia and urea and has turnover of Rs 1,000 crore.
UB Engineering- Its business activities consist of EPC projects, infrastructure and testing, commissioning of electrical and mechanical equipment, piping for large corporates, etc.
UB City- It has a commercial project covering 10 acres of land. The project will encompass commercial houses, banks, a five star hotel, retail stores, restaurants, and cafes.
UB Global- UB Global Corporation is an international trading arm of the UB Group and a government recognized export house with golden status. It is engaged in exports of beer, spirits, leather footwear, processed foods, etc.
