Usha (India) Ltd. was incorporated as a Public Limited company on February 15, 1962 with an object of to manufacture semiconductors and rectifiers including selenium rectifiers, stacks cartridges, etc.  In 1962, the company started manufacturing selenium plates and stacks in collaboration with International Rectifier Corporation, U.S.A. It entered the field of electrical equipments and set up an Equipments Division to manufacture a wide range of rectifier based industrial electronics equipments and other semi-conductions equipments. 

Later the company entered into Technical collaboration with Marconi Electronic Devices Ltd., U.K.  During 1980-81, the company diversified into the Manufacture of PVC rigid pipes. In 1988, the company’s project for the colour coating line and PVC coated galvanising sheet went on stream.
