Garware Marine Industries was promoted by the Late Padma Bhushan B D Garware, founder of the Garware Group of Companies.

Garware Marine Industries (GMIL) is a public limited company incorporated in 1975 as Modern Nets Ltd. The name was subsequently changed to Garware Marine Industries Ltd. in 1981. The shares of the company are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited.

The company has been engaged in the manufacture and marketing of fishing nets for over 3 decades and is catering to the needs of large number of fishermen throughout the Indian sub-continent.

The company has an extremely sound marketing network for its products.The company's factory is located at Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. The products manufactured by the company are well accepted in Indian markets and Internationaly and even command a premium over other manufacturers products in view of the exceptional quality and services.

There are 24 net making machines made by world famous companies - Toyo and Amita, Japan; in the state-of-the art factory at Ahmednagar. GMIL has its own Twisting Division in the same factory to produce Twine for captive consumption. The company, at present is producing 30 tonnes of nets per month. Total turnover of the company for the year is over Rs 100 million.

The company also has Ship Repair Division which employs 5 qualified Engineers / Fitters.

The company is registered with Director General of Foreign Trade and has been exporting its products for the last few years. The company's products have been accepted in the international market.

The company is involved in the manufacture and marketing of fishing nets made from nylon yarn. The company’s range of manufacture stretches from 210 Denier / 2 ply to 36 ply / from a minimum 10 mm to 400 mm Mesh sizes and upto maximum 600 MD Mesh Depth. Single Knot and Double Knot can be provided on order for certain construction sizes.
