Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services was founded as a partnership firm by C J George and Ranajit Kanjilal in 1987. Later in 1993 Ranajit Kanjilal retired from the firm. In 1995 Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation acquired 24% stake in the company, becoming the only instance in India of a government entity participating in the equity of a stock broking company.
